Initially developed in alcohol treatment, it has been adapted for use in social work, offending, mental health, and homelessness. This approach is particularly effective with treatment-resistant clients from diverse backgrounds.
This course outlines the key factors that drive change and demonstrates how motivational interviewing aligns with these forces. By integrating both person-centred and directive techniques, it offers practical skills to help practitioners assist clients in recognising the need for change. It serves as an effective primer to increase engagement with clients who have not yet achieved a sufficient level of commitment, moving them into action without conflict.
The training programme includes an extensive booklet for each participant. Throughout the course, participants will explore motivation drivers and practice motivational interviewing skills. The training is highly interactive, employing a variety of learning approaches, including presentations, pair and small group exercises, and self-assessment. Additionally, the course is supported with free e-learning and further resources to recap, review, and refresh learning.
