• Course overview

Eligibility: This course is open to anyone working in health and social care.

Commissioned by the South Gloucestershire Safeguarding Adults Board, this course is designed for practitioners from all organisations who work with adults at risk of harm.

Exploitation occurs when someone exerts power and control over another person, taking advantage of their vulnerability to make money, improve their status, or gain control. Perpetrators groom their victims, targeting their vulnerabilities and attempting to isolate them to create dependency.

Exploitation can affect a wide range of people in various ways. It is crucial for professionals to understand this issue, recognise who might be more vulnerable to exploitation, identify the signs when working with vulnerable individuals, and know what actions to take if they suspect someone may be a victim.
