Eligibility: This course is open to foster carers.
This course aims to equip foster carers with the knowledge and skills to effectively support young asylum seekers and refugees. Delivered by the experienced 1625 Independent People's Asylum and Refugee Intensive Support Team, who have been commissioned by Bristol and South Gloucestershire Council’s Social Services, this training draws on over eight years of expertise in supporting young asylum seekers in fostering placements. Having recently trained 80 social workers and collaborated with the Children’s Commissioners on best practices for accommodation providers, our team is well-versed in the unique challenges faced by young asylum seekers and refugees. This course will cover these challenges, best practices for providing support, and the relevant legal and social frameworks. This training includes a variety of engaging activities to maintain interest throughout. The primary aims are to increase understanding and empathy, and to recognise how a young person's past experiences, hopes, and fears for the future impact their present. This will provide insights into how to better support them. Join us for this essential training to enhance your understanding and ability to create a supportive environment for young asylum seekers and refugees in your care.
