    Eligibility: This course is open to foster carers

    Christabel Majendie is a sleep therapist/coach and sleep consultant, with qualifications in Psychology (BSc in Psychology and MSc in Health Psychology), specialist training in sleep (PG Diploma in Sleep Medicine from Oxford University)
    and is currently gaining certification in transformational coaching. She has worked in both public and private sector, with over ten years of experience, helping people with sleep problems to improve their experience of sleep and overall wellbeing. The course will cover both sleep in adults and young people, with the aim of providing carers with a better understanding of sleep needs for themselves and young people, how improvements can be made and how to manage sleep challenges.

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course, you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:

    • Understand the importance of sleep and evaluate your own sleep habits.
    • Explore practical ways to improve sleep and manage common sleep issues.
    • Develop a personal sleep improvement plan.
    • Understand sleep needs and changes throughout childhood and adolescence.
    • Explore the impact of sleep deprivation on children and young people.
    • Gain insight into the relationship between trauma and sleep, and strategies to provide support.
    • Discuss common sleep challenges in young children and practical approaches to managing them.
    • Explore the unique sleep-related challenges experienced by teenagers.

    Carers will have the opportunity to share questions and topics in advance to help shape discussions around trauma, young children's sleep, and teenage sleep challenges.
