    Eligibility: This course is open to everyone from any organisation working with children and families in South Gloucestershire.

    This half day course held on Microsoft Teams will help you to know how to recognise and respond to child sexual abuse (CSA) and give you and understanding about actions to take when you are worried about a child. We know that CSA is not always identified, and it is a priority for the children’s partnership to provide learning opportunities to increase practitioner confidence and understanding This course content matches the sexual abuse training that is provided in Bristol and North Somerset which will support your learning if you work in more than one local authority area.

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course, you will be able:

    • To understand what child sexual abuse (CSA) is
    • To know the characteristics of perpetrators of CSA
    • To understand the prevalence of CSA in South Gloucestershire
    • To begin to understand the child’s perspective as a survivor of CSA
    • To be able to recognise the signs and symptoms of CSA, harmful sexual behaviour and child sexual exploitation and use the professional tools available to support this
    • To understand the referral pathway and how to use it when concerns about CSA have been identified
    • To know what local services are available to support survivors of CSA
    • To think about how to approach conversations with children and young people about CSA

    Charges

    The charge for this course or event is £57.00. However, if your organisation contributes to the safeguarding board, or you are South Gloucestershire Council social care staff you will be entitled to a fully funded place. Fully funded places may be subject to a non-attendance or late cancellation fee.
