We have created a Core Training matrix tool for each of Adult Social Care and Children's Social Care and Preventative Services that you and your team managers can use to help to identify what training is relevant to your role.
The Core training matrix
The Core Training matrix lists current Mandatory, Essential for practice and Practice specific courses, and are aligned to each role. The ‘Core’ topics have been identified by managers and the Principal Social Worker (PSW) in Adult Social Care and Children’s Social Care and Preventative services.
These topics are reviewed regularly and are the result of ongoing discussions with your PSW senior management, being informed by Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARS), Children's Safeguarding Practice Reviews (CSPRs), feedback and audits.
Adult Social Care Core training Matrix guidance
The ASC Core training offer is defined as all training required by South Gloucestershire Council Adult Social Care social work and OT practitioners to carry out their role. The matrix maps the core training available. All of the courses are available on this site. It is the Team Managers responsibility to complete and keep up to date the core training matrix for their team and to liaise with Joanne Worthington, Learning and Development Advisor for support and review of this.
We understand that members of the team may have varying levels of confidence, experience and knowledge. It is therefore the team managers discretion and responsibility to complete the core training matrix for their team, since they know the team best, and to liaise with Learning and Development Adviser for support and annual review of this.
Speak to your Team Manager or Senior Practitioner to discuss the Core Training Matrix and training plan they have for you in your role in your team.
The matrix can be tailored for your team by your Team Manager or Senior Practitioner and can also be used individually to keep track of your completed training and any refresher requirements. If you manage a team and do not already have one of these for your team, contact Joanne Worthington to get started.
Children's Social Care Preventative Services Core Matrix
The Core
L&D matrix lists the current Mandatory, Essential for Practice and Practice Specific courses, and is aligned to each role, in each service area.
Where there are specific requirements as to how often training needs to be refreshed these are stated. It is however good practice for you to remain up to date and refreshed on all elements of your role, and this can be achieved perhaps by attending a course as a refresher, although we would recommend using our other resource ‘Research in Practice’ to keep up to date with the most recent developments.
How should the Core Learning and Development Matrix be used?
As part of your Induction and PDPR, your line manager should have a copy of this document and be using it to identify what Learning and Development you need to prioritise. Guidance on how this tool can be used is provided within the tool itself. It will indicate what courses are suitable for you based on your service area as well as role.
